But his hair began to grow back.

Daily Share- But his hair began to grow back.

“Then she cried out, “Samson! The Philistines have come to capture you!” When he woke up, he thought, “I will do as before and shake myself free.” But he didn’t realize the LORD had left him. So the Philistines captured him and gouged out his eyes. They took him to Gaza, where he was bound with bronze chains and forced to grind grain in the prison. But before long, his hair began to grow back.”

Judges 16:20-22 NLT

As I was thinking about the tragic life of Sampson, I began to ask God to help me to never end up in the same situation.

Sampson was dedicated to God from birth, and God was with him in such a mighty way. God accomplished so many amazing things through Samson, and blessed him abundantly. When Samson cried out God answered him in miraculous ways. Really, he was spoiled by God. But his heart lead him away. And you think, how in the world could he give that up?

I was thinking really how similar we are to Samson today though. Despite ourselves, God uses us for his great purpose. When we cry out to him he answers with his miraculous signs and wonders. We experience him daily and have 24/7 access to his throne. We are so spoiled by our father, that sometimes we forget just how much his mercy and grace are keeping us from harm. But it’s time we remember. We need to remember now more than ever.

I am so guilty of being comfortable in my routine and forgetting to include God in every aspect of my life. Because “I’ve got that under control”. But a few weeks ago when all of ur lives were turned upside down, I realized just how much the comfort in my routine was costing me.

It’s so heart breaking to me to read he verse that says “but he didn’t realize the Lord had left him”. That is such a powerful statement. How could he not know the Lord had left him?! The Lord who had been so mighty and powerful in his life. The Lord who provided him with such supernatural physical strength to accomplish great purpose. The Lord who had given him his every need, and watched over and protected him. Had we let Him slip away in our own lives before this wake up call?

I can’t help but think that it was really a gradual thing. Even though yes his strength was immediately gone when they cut his hair, it was really a gradual decline in the state of his heart that had lead him to a separation with God.

Sometimes that happens in our lives. We get so used to Gods favor and blessing in our lives that we just do things without consulting him anymore because we just know he’s going to be there if we mess up, or we just assume he agrees with us. We make decisions and don’t think the consequences will apply to us because we are blessed. I’m sure that’s the state of mind Samson was in after gradually letting his heart move him further and further away from God.

But the consequences did apply. The Lord had left him, and because he has so gradually gotten further and further away it wasn’t a noticeable thing at first. I think about how sad a life is that gets so far away from God that they don’t even notice when he’s gone, they just adjust to their new life.

Once Samson realized what had happened, it was too late. The enemy had already plucked out his eyes and chained him up as a slave. But oh isn’t God merciful? Once Samsons hair grew back his covenant was renewed with the Lord. His strength returned. But his life would never be what it should have been. He missed out on the best plan for his life. But through the mercies of God he was able to return to the Lord and accomplish one more thing before he left, because his hair grew back. The enemy thought he had completely cut off Sampson from God. But the enemy always underestimates Gods love for us. He is full of redeeming grace, always calling us home to Him. Samson’s hair was his connection to God. And as it grew back, His connection began to be restored. The bible tells us that with Samson’s last feat he killed more all together of the enemy on that day then he had his entire life. And while the story ends showing Gods great mercy and how wonderful His redemption is, it also reminds us how precious the will of God is in our lives. He wants us to stay on track so he can accomplish His purpose through us and give us the very best throughout our entire lives.

I don’t want to start out strong only to fall back into the enemy’s camp. I don’t want to not even notice that God is gone in my life. This really got on my toes about not taking advantage of the precious blood that was shed for me. I hope it does the same for you. Remember who’s you are today. Get back to that intimate place with the Lord. Don’t let him slip away again. Hang on friends, we need Him now more and more as each day passes. He is a good, good Father, just waiting for us to run back home to His will. It is there we will be protected no matter what we face. ❤️
