“But God led the people
around by the way of the wilderness toward the Red Sea; the sons of
Israel went up in battle array (orderly ranks, marching formation) out
of the land of Egypt.”
EXODUS 13:18 AMP
As I read this verse I hear God speaking to me about the paths that he leads us on to get to our promised lands. God had promised the people of Israel the land of Canaan. He was taking them out of the inhuman unimaginable bonds of slavery into a land that was overflowing in resources and would cause them to be blessed more abundantly than they could ever imagine. He said he would lead them there every step of the way. It was amazing news! Until they saw the path he was taking them down. It was the most unconventional path, and one that lead through a dry, and desolate wilderness. It wasn’t a desirable path at all. And then it got even worse. He lead them directly to the Red Sea. It was when they got there that they discovered Pharaoh had changed his mind and was coming after them full force with his army. No doubt he would wipe out most of them, and take the rest back to be treated much worse than they ever had before. It looked completely hopeless. They were angry at Moses and screaming at him asking why In the world he would lead them out in the desert to die! Telling him they would be better off as slaves than to endure what was about to happen to them. But God didn’t take them on that path to let them die. They didn’t have any idea what was really about to happen to them.
You see we can only see so far in our fleshly state. We can only speculate about most things, because we are so limited in our ability’s. God has no limits. He doesn’t look at things from our perspective. We look at the path he took the children of Israel on as ludicrous and hopeless, God sees it as the absolute perfect path.
So many times when we see where God is leading us, we are so quick to want to turn back and say this looks to hard, and impossible! We tell ourselves that we would just be better off back where we were, bound by sin or oppressed in some way, bound by addiction or depression or chained up by some stronghold in our life rather than to follow this insane looking path through the desert. But God sees it as the perfect way to get you to your promised land. In the case of the Israelites it was the path that would not only set them free from their past for a time, but it would completely destroy their source of bondage and oppression so their past wouldn’t ever be an issue for them again. What a mighty God we serve! That he would not only take us to the promised land, but set us free from our source of bondage for good on the way there.
Although sometimes we don’t understand why we are walking through the desert, just keep your head up and trust that Gods path is the only one that will complete a perfect work in you.
